Gruffalo WIN!

I've mentioned before (in one of my blogs, possibly not this one) that the children's books by Julia Donaldson are my very favorite books. The Gruffalo seems to be the most famous, though my favorite is actually Room on the Broom. However, in a completely unrelated surprise, I found this in my daily web-comics:

Gruffalo win!

P. S. It's "The Smartest Giant in Town", not "The Spiffiest Giant in Town"! Just like it's "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", not "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"! Gah, it bugs me that publishers feel the need to do that, sometimes.

It's a random word generator.

The point? ...Ummm, that's a harder question. But hey, it's a random word generator.

The Leeeetle Peeeeeple

I listen to, as I've mentioned any number of times on my two blogs, the BBC Global News podcast. On Friday morning's podcast (which I was listening to today), they had a story about a specific gene line in Ecuador. Apparently, some time ago, a specific Spanish immigrant came to Ecuador, and fathered a line of people with a couple of specific properties that scientists believe are associated. Specifically, Laron syndrome, an unusually low incidence of diabetes and cancer, and dwarfism.

It was interesting enough, but I just couldn't take it seriously. You see, the reporter was interviewing a doctor working on this, and the doctor - in a strong accent - kept on referring to the family line as "leeeeeetle peeeeeeple." And of course, every time he did, I burst out laughing.

Ahhhh, I'm going to hell.

Ragtime

So I'm at Best Buy, and while walking past the electronic keyboard, a couple of girls were... Competing, I guess. I walk past them and one starts playing the Maple Leaf Rag waaaay too fast. I wanted to run up to them and yell "NO! No! Relaaaaaax! Play it sloooow, let it flooooow out."

Now I feel old.
Aidan just ran off upstairs yelling "The dryer ate my socks!" It's more odd since there isn't a dryer in this house. I really have no idea where he gets these things...

Argh.

So sitting in the living room at one in the morning, chatting with my parents (freshly back from Mexico), something really really funny happened... And I thought to myself, "I should blog that." Now, it's the next day, I've slept and woken up, and for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

Let that be your lesson for the day, kids - never put off until tomorrow what you're going to forget because your tired ass wants to go to bed.

Strange Days

Everything's a little bit sideways, today. Not at all comfortable. Still not sure if it's mental or physical, but I'm assuming mental...

Quote of the Day

"In Star Wars, Luke starts out as a dirt farmer!"
"A moisture farmer."
"Oh yeah, a moisture farmer!"

Eboneeee and Ivoreeeeee...

In a meeting at work, one of my co-workers brought a couple of black and white cookies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_and_white_cookie

With one of my ex-girlfriends - Michelle, who I dated for two and a half years, back around 2000 - every time I went out to Ithaca to visit her, we'd grab two from the local Wegmans (their bakery sold them in pairs at the time) and eat them in her dorm room. It's a randomly very nice memory.

It occurs to me (after my co-worker gave me one) that I've eaten - literally - like 2 black-and-white cookies in the last 9 years, but I ate probably 30-50 in the couple of years I was dating her. Not that there's no reason - I just never bought them by myself. Weird how these things work out.

The Song of Ælfwine

A Falas athan Gaer ‘Wathui!
A Dor ias Edhil dhorthar hi!
A Círbann - bar guren velui!

He was neither tall nor fair, but he was faithful in the years I knew him. I'll miss him, damnit.

Effective Advertising

I have to admit it, I really like the new Chrysler commercial I've seen this weekend.
